Who Sophie Willan is

Sophie Willan is an English stand-up comedian, writer and actor whose Edinburgh Fringe show Branded was nominated for Best Comedy Show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2017, the year she was also a Chortle Awards nominee for Best Newcomer; earlier hours were Novice Detective (2014) and On Record (2016).

She has played Comedy Central at the Comedy Store and made the BBC Radio 4 series Sophie Willan's Guide to Normality, and her BBC Two sitcom Alma's Not Normal, which she created, writes and stars in, won her the BAFTA for female performance in a comedy programme in 2022 and the BAFTA for comedy writing in 2021. She has appeared on Taskmaster, Would I Lie to You? and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, acted in Ludwig and Still Open All Hours, and in September 2025 was named the new host of The Great British Sewing Bee.
