Working a room.
Plan a Night answers "where shall we go tonight". This answers the other question entirely: you are booked somewhere and you have never been there. Where do you put a car with a speaker in it, where do you sit for four hours, what is still serving when you come off, and what can you say about this town that will be true.
Same searches, same addresses, asked from the other side of the microphone.
The rooms in the Club Directory get counted numbers — bars within four blocks that aren't the club's, kitchens listing hours past 11 pm, hotels you can walk from, chargers and the town's papers. Any other room gets live map searches.
Type a room you are playing, or pick one below.
Not counted for this room yet — the live searches below still work.
Walk it, don't ride it
A drink after that is not at the club, something to eat after eleven, a bed you can walk to, and a day off within however far you feel like walking — counted, so you know before you get there.
Plug in near the room
The fast chargers round the room, and the Level 2 chargers close enough to walk to from the door — plug in, play the show, drive off with more range than you came with.
Read the town. Watch the people.
A comic who says something true and specific about this town owns the room before the first written joke lands.
Ask at check-in
Questions that are free to ask on the way in and expensive to discover at eleven at night. Every one has a default that catches people out.
The last group is the one worth doing properly. What is true about this town tonight is material you cannot write at home — and it is free, sitting in the local paper and the subreddit while you wait.

Topic numbers refer to D.O.C.'s companion book, Stand-Up Comedy: From Writing to Touring. The counted places are from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors) and the chargers from the U.S. Department of Energy's station list, each dated where it is shown.
