How to play the daily comedy puzzle
How do you play the daily comedy puzzle?
Komic Bacon names two stand-up comedians, a START and a FINAL. Name a comedian who has worked with the START: a bill they shared, a film or a series they were both in, a podcast they both host, a cast they were on together. Then name one who has worked with that comedian, and so on. The chain closes by itself the moment your newest comedian has worked with the FINAL.
How many tries do I get?
Six. Every name you put up is a try, whether it links or not, and a hint costs one too. A chain runs six degrees at most, and you can take a name back at any time; the try it cost stays spent.
What is par?
Par is Komic Bacon’s own answer: the shortest chain he found when he set the puzzle. Match it and you have found a shortest way there.
When is there a new puzzle?
Every day at midnight, New York time, and it is the same puzzle for everyone that day. The chains are shorter early in the week and longer toward the weekend.
What do the squares mean?
One square for each try: 🟩 the name linked and brought you a step closer, 🟨 it linked but no closer, 🟥 no link on the record, 💡 a hint. 🥓 means connected. Shared, the squares tell your friends how it went without giving the answer away.
Where is my streak kept?
In this browser, on this device. There is no account and nothing to sign up for. Another phone or browser keeps a streak of its own.
Can I play a puzzle I missed?
Yes. Tap a past day in the twelve circles at the top. A past puzzle is for fun: it doesn’t change your streak.
What counts as a link
Each link between two comedians is a fact on the record, the same as in Six Degrees of Komic Bacon. It can be a bill they shared on the Comedy Calendar, or one a comedian’s own website names (“opened for”, “toured with”). It can be a film or a series they were both in, from their screen credits. A talk show, a showcase or a contest never counts: turning up on different nights isn’t working together. It can be a podcast they both host, or a cast they were on at the same time: Saturday Night Live, MADtv, In Living Color, The Daily Show, The Second City (Launching Pads).
Each puzzle keeps the links it was set with, so yesterday’s answer still reads as it did yesterday. Tap a link’s label on the board to see where it comes from.
