Who Patrick Kielty is
Patrick Kielty is a stand-up comedian and television presenter from Dundrum, County Down, who began his stand-up career as host of Northern Ireland's first comedy club, The Empire Laughs Back, in Belfast. An award-winning stand-up, he has built a career across television, radio and live stand-up tours, with television credits including Channel 4's Last Chance Lottery, and in September 2023 he became the fourth main presenter of RTÉ's The Late Late Show, the longest-running live television chat show in the world. The same year he made his feature-film debut in Ballywalter, playing Shane.

Their stand-up
While studying psychology at Queen's University Belfast, Kielty and his friend Jackie Hamilton opened a comedy club at The Empire on Botanic Avenue in Belfast, and he went on to be a finalist in a national comedy search for RTÉ's The Late Late Show; his BBC Northern Ireland show PK Tonight won him Best Newcomer at the 1996 Royal Television Society Awards.
He hosted the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics at Croke Park in Dublin on 21 June 2003, returned to stand-up touring in 2006 with a show filmed for DVD at Belfast's Grand Opera House, and took his Borderline show on tour in 2022; as a documentary presenter he was named UK documentary host of the year at the 2018 Grierson Awards and won a Royal Television Society award for best presenter for One Hundred Years of Union.
