Who Madeleine Brettingham is

Madeleine Brettingham is a British stand-up comedian and comedy writer based in London, whose television writing credits include Frankie Boyle's New World Order, Would I Lie To You?, Have I Got News For You, That Mitchell and Webb Look and Horrible Histories. In 2025 she won So You Think You're Funny? at the Edinburgh Fringe and the Bath Comedy Festival's New Act Competition, and took silver at the Funny Women Stage Awards.

She previewed her debut hour at the 2026 Machynlleth Comedy Festival and was on the 2026 Bath Comedy Festival programme, and the show, Legend, played a sell-out run at the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe, where it was shortlisted for Best Newcomer at the Comedians' Choice Awards and long-listed for Best Newcomer at the (ISH) Edinburgh Comedy Awards. Her play Dear Martin premiered at the Arcola Theatre in 2025 and earned an Offie Assessors' Choice.
