Who Bret McKenzie is

Bret McKenzie is a New Zealand comedian, musician and songwriter, one half of the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords with Jemaine Clement. The pair spent several years playing comedy festivals in Australia, Canada and the UK, made their HBO debut in an edition of the comedy series One Night Stand in 2005 and starred in their own HBO series, Flight of the Conchords, from 2007; their EP The Distant Future won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album, and their albums include Flight of the Conchords (2008), I Told You I Was Freaky (2009) and Live in London (2019), taped at the Eventim Apollo.

In 2012 he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for 'Man or Muppet' from The Muppets, he has released two solo albums, Songs Without Jokes (2022) and Freak Out City (2025), and in May 2026 the duo played Netflix Is a Joke Fest at the Greek Theatre.
