James Nokise

Who James Nokise is

James Nokise is a Samoan-Welsh stand-up comedian, columnist and broadcaster from the Wellington area, whose early break came on New Zealand television's Pulp Comedy in 1996. Twice nominated for the Billy T Award, in 2005 and 2006, James Nokise won the Fred Award for best New Zealand show at the 2019 New Zealand International Comedy Festival with God Damn Fancy Man, the festival's Spirit of the Festival award in 2021 with Let It Out, and the Topp Comedy Prize in 2024, and the stand-up shows have played repeat seasons in Edinburgh, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and New York.

On television the work runs from writing and panel spots on 7 Days to hosting Yours Faithfully on TVNZ+ and a stand-up set on the ABC's Comedy Up Late, and the podcast The Last Voyage of the Rainbow Warrior, made for RNZ and ABC Australia, won three awards in 2025.
