Who Woody Allen is
Woody Allen is a filmmaker, actor, writer and comedian from New York who wrote jokes and TV comedy in the 1950s, including specials for Sid Caesar, before performing stand-up in Greenwich Village clubs from 1960 to 1969, where he developed a monologue style and a neurotic, intellectual persona. He released three stand-up albums, including the Grammy-nominated Woody Allen (1964), and sat in the host's chair on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson 17 times. He went on to write and direct films including Annie Hall (1977), which won four Academy Awards, and Manhattan (1979).
