Who Tim Minchin is

Tim Minchin is an Australian musical comedian, composer, actor and writer, born in Perth in 1975. His comedy show Dark Side won the Directors' Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2005, and was followed by So Rock and Ready for This?, which brought him the Helpmann Award for Best Comedy Performer in 2009, and by orchestral shows such as Tim Minchin and the Heritage Orchestra, filmed at the Royal Albert Hall in 2011.

In 2009 he was one of the two headliners of the first Brisbane Comedy Festival. He wrote the music and lyrics for Matilda the Musical and Groundhog Day the Musical, co-wrote and starred in the series Upright, appeared in Californication and The Secret River, and has toured BACK (2019 to 2022), An Unfunny Evening With Tim Minchin and His Piano (2023 to 2024) and Songs the World Will Never Hear (2025).
