Who Darryl Littleton is
Darryl Littleton is a stand-up comedian, comedy writer and author who became a regular at the Comedy Store under the stage name DMilitant and has toured as a stand-up around the world. Littleton's stand-up has been seen on HBO's Def Comedy Jam, The Apollo Comedy Hour, Uptown Comedy Club, Comedy Central's Make Me Laugh and Comics Unleashed; Littleton was the grand prize winner on ABC's America's Funniest People and won the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition in 2006, the year Littleton joined NPR's contributing commentators.
Behind the scenes Littleton was D. L. Hughley's writer as host of BET's Comic View and later wrote and produced for the show, and worked as script supervisor, touring host and writer for Katt Williams. Littleton's 2006 book Black Comedians on Black Comedy became the documentary Why We Laugh, produced with director Robert Townsend, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009 and aired on Showtime in 2010; later books include Comediennes (2012) and How To Do Stand-Up Comedy (2018).
