Who Rod Quantock is
Rod Quantock is a Melbourne-born stand-up comedian and a pioneer of contemporary Australian comedy, who first went on stage in the Melbourne University Architects' Revue in 1968 and a decade later opened The Comedy Café & Banana Lounge, Australia's first performer-owned theatre restaurant. He was an inaugural board member of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and, as of 2020, the only performer to have appeared in all thirty-three of its festivals, sharing its Directors' Choice Award in 2012 for his Third Annual Mystery Comedy Walking Tour.
He co-created and co-starred in ABC-TV's Australia, You're Standing In It in 1983 and 1984, the first comedy the ABC made outside Sydney, was nominated for the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival, and has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.
