Who Mark Watson is
Mark Watson is a stand-up comedian and novelist, a former Cambridge Footlighter who made his name on the circuit in 2002, winning The Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award and finishing runner-up in So You Think You're Funny? that year. Known for marathon Edinburgh shows lasting more than twenty-four hours, Watson was nominated for the Perrier Award and won Chortle's award for innovation in 2005, took the if.comedies panel prize in 2007, and has brought shows to the Edinburgh Fringe since 2001, from The Information (2012) and Flaws (2014) to The Infinite Show (2018) and Before It Overtakes Us (2025 and 2026).
Watson's books run from the debut novel Bullet Points to Hotel Alpha (2014) and the memoir Mortification; on radio, Mark Watson Makes the World Substantially Better began in 2007, and in 2020 Watson performed stand-up from home for BBC Radio Wales's virtual Machynlleth Comedy Festival.
