Who Hal Sparks is

Hal Sparks is an American stand-up comedian, actor and musician who began performing stand-up as a teenager in the Chicago area and won the city's Funniest Teenager contest at 16. He went on to tour clubs and theatres across the country with high-energy observational stand-up that mixes characters, impressions and commentary. As an actor he is best known as Michael Novotny in Showtime's Queer as Folk and Donald Davenport in Disney XD's Lab Rats, and he hosted E!'s Talk Soup and was a featured commentator on VH1's I Love the 70s, 80s and 90s. His track Bridezilla was played on SiriusXM's Raw Comedy channel in November 2025.

In 1988, with the syndicated game show Treasure Mall, Sparks became the youngest game-show host in the United States; he independently produced his first stand-up DVD, Escape from Halcatraz, in 2008 and recorded his first Showtime special, Charmageddon, before a standing-room-only crowd at the OC Pavilion in Santa Ana, California, in 2009.

He is the lead singer and guitarist of the rock band Zero 1, whose debut album was produced by dUg Pinnick of King's X, and he finished third on Fox's Celebrity Duets in 2006.
