Tommy McCarthy
Who Tommy McCarthy is
Tommy McCarthy is a stand-up comedian from West Belfast and a former professional boxer, a European title holder and Commonwealth Games medallist who retired from the ring in March 2025. By April 2023 he had made his stand-up debut at Belfast's Empire Comedy Club, after a first five-minute set at a Gaelic club in Coalisland, and had warmed up for Paddy McDonnell at Féile an Phobail; his act tells stories from his own life.
With fellow boxer Tyrone McKenna he wrote and starred in The Spar, a comedy short for the BBC's Comedy Shorts on BBC One in 2024, and co-hosts the podcast Whiskey N White, and his move from boxing to comedy was followed in the BBC documentary Punchline: Fighting for Laughs.
