Pete Holmes began his comedy career in New York City, playing clubs in the mid-2000s and touring as a comic, including on the Christian comedy circuit; since 2006 his cartoons have appeared in The New Yorker.

He did his first television special on Comedy Central Presents on 26 February 2010, launched the podcast You Made It Weird in 2011, and hosted The Pete Holmes Show on TBS, after Conan, from 2013 to 2014.
