Moshe Kasher grew up in Oakland, worked as a sign-language interpreter from seventeen, and started at open mics in 2001 after watching his junior-high schoolmate Chelsea Peretti perform; his first set was at the Luggage Store Gallery in San Francisco, and he went on to play the Punch Line and Cobb's.

In 2009 he was named Best of Fest at the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, played Just for Laughs in Montreal and was named iTunes' top new comedy artist of the year, and in January 2012 he recorded his first solo Netflix special, Live in Oakland, at The New Parish in his hometown.
