Their stand-up
Bobcat Goldthwait was doing stand-up at fifteen in Syracuse, New York, with his school friend Tom Kenny; at an open mic in Skaneateles the two took the names Bobcat and Tomcat as a tribute to Barry Crimmins, who billed himself as Bear Cat.
His 1980s specials, An Evening with Bobcat Goldthwait: Share the Warmth and Is He Like That All the Time?, made his raspy, high-pitched black-comedy act famous, and in the fall of 1993 he opened for Nirvana on their North American tour.
He became a panelist on NPR's Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! in July 2012, and as a director he made Patton Oswalt's 2014 special Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time and Call Me Lucky, his 2015 documentary on Barry Crimmins.
