Six Degrees of Komic Bacon

Name two stand-up comedians and Komic Bacon finds how they connect: a bill they shared, a show or a film they were both in, a podcast they both host, a cast they were on together.

How Komic Bacon connects ’em

Each link between two comedians is a fact on the record: a bill they shared on the Comedy Calendar, or one a comedian's own site names (“opened for”, “toured with”, “co-hosts with”); a film or a series they both appeared in, from each one's screen credits — never a talk show, a showcase or a contest, where turning up on different nights isn't working together; a podcast they both host; and a cast they were on at the same time — Saturday Night Live, MADtv, In Living Color, The Daily Show, The Second City. The chain is the shortest there is, and among chains as short, the one with the closest links.

Sounds like reads each comedian's voice — the kind of comedy (storytelling, deadpan, crowd work…), what they talk about, and whether the act is clean — from their own site, their specials' network pages and their interviews. Two voices are close when they share those words, and a word few comedians share counts for more than a common one; the furthest voice shares none of them and stands across from it — deadpan against high energy, clean against blue. Komic Bacon rounds each match to his own scale — 95, 80, 65, 50, 30 or 10 per cent — from very similar to very different.
